In an unprecedented show of solidarity and acceptance of Akparawa Monday Etokakpan’s presidency of Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio, MMI, the largest socio-cultural group in Nigeria, an intimidating crowd of members and well-wishers swarmed into Qua Iboe Church Edebom 1 community in the morning of Sunday, August 3, 2014.
The occasion was to round off one week of activities to mark MMI Founders Day Celebration with a thanks giving service scheduled to hold in the newly sworn-in President’s country home church. It would seem the Church’s management and the event planners had under-estimated the coming attendance as they soon got overwhelmed as every regular member except, of course, the pulpit, had to vacate their seats in and outside the church building for the thousands that kept milling in till the very end of the program.

Significant was the new record of five of the living seven past presidents making it to the service and very early too despite the appreciable distance from Uyo where many of them reside. To many of us this is symbolic and indicative of the support and encouragement of our elders and founding fathers. And the the 9th International EXCO under the leadership of Elder Monday Etokakpan needs a good dose of this prized goodwill to succeed.

The elders in the Church included Air Marshal (Elder) Nsikak Eduok, the Grand Patron of MMI and a former two-time Chief of Air Staff in the FRN, Air Commodore Idongesit Nkanga, Former Military Administrator of Akwa Ibom State, Akparawa Valentine Attah, Ph.D, former UN Representative, Eastern Nigeria; Paramount Ruler of Nsit Ibom, The Chairman of the Local Government Area, Afi Iwaad Ekid, Akparawa Okon Imerh, Former Director of Protocol Akwa Ibom State Government; Akparawa Udo Sam Umoatan, Former Chairman Mkpat Enin LGA; Akparawa Sylvester Akpan, Ph.D; Immediate Past Rector of AkwaPoly; Akparawa  (Elder) Nse Ubeh, Immediate Past President and Senior Special Adviser to AKS Governor on Project Monitoring; Akparawa Jimaimah Essien, Senior Special Adviser to the President on Diaspora Matters.

The sermon by the officiating minister, Rev Ime J. Obot urged the Mboho members to work as one united entity as this is the one sure way the group can achieve her set goals.
In his admonition Air Marshal Nsikak Eduok who is the Grand Patron of Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio reminded Mboho that it is the last hope of the Ibibio race warning that it was high time MMI moved from Akwa Ibom State into larger Nigeria and make its impact felt in the aspect of speaking up against the tendency of the ruling class at the centre to continue to take our peaceful disposition for weakness.
Air Commodore Idongesit Nkanga on his part urged Mboho to be prepared for emergence of a new Nigeria. He said signals and body language of the rest of Nigeria at the national Conference of which he was a delegate pointed unmistakably to this possibility. He said it was a new country where survival will increasingly be guaranteed only for the resourceful and courageous.
