Press Release

Ladies and Gentlemen,

My attention has been drawn to a press release by Akparawa Nse Ubeh who is a past president of Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio and Akparawa Patrick Udofia claiming to be acting under a purported umbrella body, called Akwa Ibom Union and speaking for leadership of Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio plus other ethnic organizations and making certain political declarations regarding the ongoing electioneering campaigns in the country by politicians. I have to hereby make the following clarifications for the benefit of our members and the general public.

  1. Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio as the largest socio-cultural organization in Nigeria is not and can never be an affiliate or sub-unit of any organization in line with our founding statutes and the spirits of our founding fathers.

2.Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio is non-political and non-partisan. There is also no leadership crisis or dispute in

Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio and there has always been one President at a time elected to serve a 4-year single term in office. And I, Akparawa ( Elder ) Monday Etokakpan currently hold that mandate and retain the sacred responsibility to speak for MMI on State and National issues and this role has not been delegated to any one else.

  1. The said publication, contrary to its claims, did not emanate from the leadership of Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio, not from her Board of Trustees, not from her Advisory Council, Central Working Committee, Executive

Council or from the General Assembly which are the only organs of our great organization.

  1. Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio recognizes individual members’ right and indeed encourages interested members to participate in political activities including partisan politics in so far as they do not allow their personal ambition or desperation to make them attempt to use the name of the organisation to achieve personal and selfish goals such as in this unfortunate instance. Members are reminded that this level of desperation and un-negotiated

partnership in the past has not earned Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio or Ibibio at large any real dividends materially

or politically, accounting largely for the relegation of the modern Ibibio race to crombs eaters even where we

should be in the driving seat. This has so far ensured the oppression of the Ibibio by both majority and minority ethnic groups in Nigeria and the emergence of new oppressors in every political season.

  1. Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio members are currently active in all the existing political arrangements in the State

and we hereby repeat our warning to all to abide by our rules of engagement while Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio

remains a father to all our members and wishing them all the best in the ongoing campaigns.

  1. Our constitutional commitment remains to work with any legitimate government to ensure justice, equity and fair deal to Ibibio People and the Ibibio cause and indeed the entire Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria.
  1. At the appropriate time Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio will make her official declaration regarding political developments in the State and Nation.

Thank you.
