A CROSS SECTION OF MEMBERS AT 9TH NATIONAL CONVENTION OF MBOHO MKPARAWA IBIBIO USA/CANADA IN NEW YORK CITY 27TH -29TH JUNE 2014

Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio, the umbrella socio-cultural organization of Ibibio youth world-wide with headquarters in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State has concluded her 2014 annual convention in New York City with a resolve to do all within her powers to preserve the cherished values of Ibibio people where ever they may be in the world.

In papers, talks, performing arts presented the facilitators and resource persons, all carefully chosen scholars and shining lights of Ibibio Nation, were unanimous in affirming the Ibibio language as the one indisputable medium which encapsulates the mores, the music, the dances, the morals, the beliefs, the cuisine and the dress code of the Ibibio person. Attendees voted for an affirmative action from Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio as well as governments at all levels and Non-governmental Organisations to speak, teach, and write Ibibio language at homes and in schools.

The weekend program started on Friday, June 27, 2014 with a gala night which followed a session with three Paramount Rulers one each from Eket, Ikot Ekpene and Uyo Senatorial Districts led by the Chairman of the Supreme Council of Traditional Rulers in Akwa Ibom State Edidem (Prof) Victor N. Umoh who doubles as the Paramount Ruler for Ukanafun Local Government Area in Akwa Ibom State.
The Saturday afternoon session chaired by Dr Okon Akpan, a New York based registered pharmacist featured the recognition of an illustrious son of Akwa Ibom State Dr Moses Udoh for his philanthropic programs and services to his communities which reaches beyond Akwa Ibom State. The audience of over 300 members and friends witnessed a successful fund raising segment to support educational development and scholarship awards, a valedictory address by the International President Akparawa Nse Ubeh who also performed induction ceremony for new members into the Organisation, and a variety of cultural dances and display.
The next convention holds in Houston 26th – 28th June 2015.
