Akparawa (Prof) Maurice Ekwo sworn in as USA/Canada High Commissioner of MMI
Akparawa (Prof.) Maurice Ekwo of Houston Chapter of Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio was on Sunday 13th
Janurary 2013, during the first Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting of the year, formally sworn-in as the second High Commissioner for USA/Canada High Commission of the organisation.
In a brief ceremony which took place at Sir Udo Udoma House, the international headquarters of the organization in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, the President, Akparawa (Elder) Nse Ube, charged the High Commissioner to abide by the constitution of Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio and take full control of the organization in USA/Canada by bringing together all Ibibio sons and daughters in the area.
Akparawa Ube advised the aggrieved parties in USA/Canada to sheathe their swords and work with the leadership and all members for the progress of Ibibio nation.
“This is not the time to talk about faction in an organisation which has worked together for 25 years, highly respected, loved and admired by many and is now a training institution for many other organizations”, the President said.
He described Akparawa (Prof) Ekwo as an honest and transparent son of Ibibio,
explaining that the Executive and CWC took into consideration a lot of factors before giving him the responsibility.
The President advised members of USA/Canada High Commission to drop their personal/individual interests and work for Ibibio interest and used the occasion to commend Mboho members in USA/Canada for the wonderful support to the organization and show of solidarity during his visit to the Commission.
Responding, Akparawa (Prof) Ekwo, who was appointed High Commissioner in October 2011, promised to serve the organisation diligently and to the best of his ability.
He called for support and co-operation from members in USA/Canada and the International Headquarters and pledged that the High Commission will key into the ongoing re-branding programmes of the organization.
This swearing-in was the first time Mboho High Commissioner to USA/Canada would appear before the Central Working Committee at the Headquarters of the organization to take an oath of office.
Akparawa Ekwo took over from Akparawa Sylvanus Okon, who had served in that position under three presidents Akparawa (Prince) Godwin Ude, Akparawa (Dr) Sylvester Akpan and Akparawa (Elder) Nse Ubeh.
The former High Commissioner, Akparawa Sylvanus Okon was relieved of the position by the President in line with Mboho’s Constitution, following the recommendation of the Executive Council and Central Working Committee and approved by the General Assembly.
The ceremony was watched by some eminent members of the organization including Akparawa(DR) Sylvester J. Akpan – immediate past president, Akparawa Okon Imerh – past president, Akparawa Ama T. Ama – founding member/member Board of Trustees, members of Executive Council and chapter chairmen and secretaries.
Meanwhile, the President, Akparawa Nse Ube, has relieved all his personal aides of their appointments.
The President, who announced the development during the January 2013 CWC meeting, thanked those affected for the excellent services they rendered during the period which lasted about two years ago and promised to make new appointments within a very short time.
Those affected include Chief of Staff, Chief Protocol Officer, special assistants, senior special assistants, personal assistants, Chief Security Officer.etc
